     District Executive's Minute,

              Good Afternoon Scouters,

                              Please don't forget AppleTree Cub Field Day & Boy Scout Camporee
is approaching fast !....This Saturday, Oct. 28-30 at AppleTree Campground.....
Cub Scouts from Nantahala & Cataloochee Districts will be coming out Sat. for a fun day
of activities, advancement & service hour opportunities and a chance to taste some of the
Boy Scouts delicious desserts.

                              On Monday, Nov.7th (Round Table) we will be working on our Recharters.
So bring your Recharter Packet, Computer, and any questions you might have. Please make
sure all of the leaders i  your unit have their Youth Protection Certification (valid for 2 years)
prior to turning in your units recharter paperwork.

                              On Saturday, Nov. 12th at Haywood Community College, we will be having
our University of Scouting. This is a Awesome day of youth & adult training with opportunities
for our Cub Scouts to work on Nova/Super Nova & our Boy Scouts have an opportunity to work
on merit badges and/or attend training. Please visit danielboonecouncil.org to pay & register
(you Must Log in and have an account first.

                             Finally, on Saturday, November 19th at Robbinsville High School, we will
be hosting a M.B. Midway. All of the Scout Masters should have received an email from me
with the MB Midway info. attached ! I also posted the file on FaceBook. We are also inviting
any Troop in the Council that wishes to attend the Midway. We will ave some awesome adult
training lead by Dr. Harry Summerlin (Council Advancement Chair)...please refer to schedule.

Grog's Blog.....

   DE's Corner.

 A great big "Thank You" to Phil Keller, James Hooper, Dave Hotchkiss,
Ken Koch & Jill Raymer for all of your leadership & instruction at the
Nantahala Shooting Sports Day !

Also a big Thank You to All of the packs & troops that came out and
participated on Sat. Sept. 24th. It was great to see our Scouts having a
great time on the range.

Leaders, please don't forget Round Table on Mon. & Training Day on
Sat. Oct.15th (8:45-12:30) at Andrews UMC (upstairs in Pack 401's
meeting room.).

Also, a Big Shout Out to Troop #405's Troop Committee who got 9
committee members trained last Fri. night while Troop #405 was
planting a garden at their Chartered Organization (Snow Bird Youth
Center). On Sat, Troop #400 did an awesome job cleaning tons of debris
out of a river in Murphy ! Great job Scouts & Scouters !

   Good Afternoon Scouters ! I hope everyone is having a great day !
Thanks to everyone who came out to Round Table Mon. Night.... That
was a Great Crowd ! Please don't forget to call all your scouts/parents about their
2017 unit involvement so you can get them rechartered for 2017....."Retention"

  Here is a few quick notes..
  Eddie Hollifield & I will be delivering Show & Sell Popcorn to Pack & Troop #400
next Wed. Sept. 21st (hopefully around 12pm (we will make arrangements with you
between now & then on location & will call as we are getting closer to drop-off point !

I trust by now everyone has their unit's shooting sports flyer downloaded & promoted \
within your unit now for next Sat. Sept. 24th !

Please, Please Promote Cub/Parent Weekend (Oct. 8-9) at Camp Daniel Boone with All
of your Cubs (new & seasoned).

Cub Scout Leader Specific will be taught on Sat. Oct.15th at Andrews UMC. (8:45-1:00 pm).
No Charge !

Lastly, We will have Nantahala's MB Midway packet out very soon with all the mb's offered (& pre-requisites) as well as adult trainings we will offer that day. All units in DBC are invited ! If you need a place to camp Fri. or Sat. night (or both) reserve your troop's space at Lumpkin Adventure Base through Peggy Baillie (at the Scout Office) & don't forget to file your tour permit !

 Thanks to Every Parent & Leader in Nantahala District for doing what you do for our youth ! You are Appreciated !

We also sent this info. to Cataloochee Units so they can attend as well...
This is open to any pack or troop, so register & come out to AppleTree & enjoy a great weekend !

   We will have the list of m.b.'s (& their pre-requisites) along with other Midway info out very soon !

In Closing, We have a yonng Scout...Gentry, from Troop #405 in Robbinsville that has been having some health issues & is back in the hospital. Please keep Gentry & his Family in your Thoughts & Prayers !

First, I would like to recognize 2 Cub Scouters (Ken & Michelle)from Pack 400 for attending OWL & BALOO last weekend at CDB ! Thanks for attending & Thanks to both of you for what you already do for Scouting in your pack ! Also Jill (our District Training Chair) represented our district at the Council Training meeting last Sunday at CDB...Thank You Jill ! Jill will be contacted each unit to set up individual unit training this Fall for each pack & troop ! Please Be Prepared with a date !

Scouters, please don't forget we have a Cub Scout & Boy Scout Shooting Sports Day at the Sheriff's Farm (in Marble, Hwy. 74) on Sat. Sept. 24th. There will be No Cost for this event, so urge all of your new & experienced Cub & Boy Scouts to come out and spend some time on the range with Phil & James.

Cub Scouts will shoot bb's & archery 9:00-11:30 & Boy Scouts will shoot archery & 22's from 1-3 pm. We will Not provide lunch, but we do urge Scouts to bring their water bottles.

Scouters, Please don't forget this Mon. is Labor Day, so our Nantahala Round Table will be held on Mon. Sept. 12 (5:30 pm Commissioners Meeting & 6:30 Round Table. Make sure to bring your units calendar (at least 6 months, hopefully 12 months), your Popcorn chair & your Packs Rank Round Robin Rotation schedule for Apple Tree. We have a whole to do & some very important information to review so please make sure there is a representative from your unit there (preferably your CubMaster or ScoutMaster !

Cub Parent Weekend (Oct. 8-9) at Camp Daniel Boone. Leaders, please encourage All your Cubs & Parents to attend Cub/Parent weekend. We also need some help on the shooting sports ranges, so please sign up (as a Pack) and make sure to get your registration form in by deadline (cabin usage are on a first-come-first-serve basis).

Apple Tree Camporee (& Cub Field Day) packet will be out this weekend. Packs need to help promote this Awesome event with both your seasoned Cubs & Boy Scouts & your new Scouts that will sign up this Fall ! This is an event for both Nantahala & Cataloochee Districts ! We encourage as many units to register & come out for Fun activities and a campwide service project Sat. aftrenoon !

Thanks everybody for a Great Summer ! We look forward to growing our District this Fall & we need each of you to be involved !

In closing,we have a Boy Scout from Troop #405 (Robbinsville) that is in the hospital in Asheville. Please help us keep him & his family in your Thoughts & Prayers ! We are thinking of you Gentry !

Nantahala Scouters,

   A Great Big Thank You to Each Pack (your Leaders & Parents)  for stepping up and help
making our District Fun Day /Pack Camping trip a big success ! We had over 40 Cub Scouts,
Siblings & Parents camping out Friday Night at the Farm & about 40 Cub Scouts (+ siblings)
participate in the Fun Day Sat.

  Thanks to each Pack that was responsible for one of our activities (crafts, bb's, archery,
slingshots, catapult, creek stomping & fishing. We also had the Rescue squad their for medical emergencies & 2 fire trucks to spray our Cubs with 900 gallons of water to cool them down.

Thanks to each of you  that served on staff as you all help put big smiles on each  young man's
face !

Don't forget Aug. 15th Roundtable at Mt. Zion Baptist Church...Bring your Dutch Oven &
come on day Mon. afternoon & cook ameal or dessert. We will be discussing Appletree
 Field Day as well as Fall program &  training opportunitues !

Don't forget to appoint your unit Popcorn Chairs !

Grogs Blog......

  Nantahala District News !

    Congratulations to Nantahala District Volunteers & Friends of Scouting for working
together to reach our 2016 FOS Goal ! Also, Thank You to every registered unit in
Nantahala District for selling Camp Cards. We were able to put back approximately $6,000 in hands of the units & the Scouts to use for Fun Day & Summer Camp ! Great job Scouts, Leaders & Parents in our Camp Card sells this year !

 Cub Masters, Please don't forget we have a School Night For Scouting Meeting Mon.
June 6 (Andrews UMC @ 6:30 pm). Please make sure you bring with you any new youth or adult applications (incl. those who are in K. graduating into 1st Grade next week) so we
can get those turned in to David this week. Thank You !

Lastly, Any units that will have leaders/ parents & Cubs camping out Fri. June 17 prior
to Fun Day, make sure you  have filed a Tour Permit on line (or through Mrs. Peggy at the Scout Office) & bring a copy of your Tour Permit & Medical Forms with you.
